Spring 2012

Local Filmmakers Grant program announced by San Antonio Film Commission – Program encourages local filmmakers and investors to make the jump to commercial motion pictures.

The San Antonio Film Commission, a division of the City of San Antonio Convention and Visitors Bureau, announced today the Local Filmmakers Grant, for filmmakers residing in the City of San Antonio, and providing them with a $25,000 matching grant to make a feature-length motion picture in San Antonio.

"San Antonio has a great wellspring of creative talent, particularly when it comes to filmmaking," Mayor Julián Castro said. "This is a positive investment that will increase the exposure of the local film industry and the many talented individuals who are involved with it."

Partnering with the film commission on this program is the city’s Office of Cultural Affairs. “Business development goes hand-in-hand with supporting the arts in San Antonio,” adds OCA director Felix Padron. Learn more about the mission of the Office of Cultural Affairs at www.sahearts.com.

The Local Filmmakers Grant program will support local filmmakers who have at least $25,000 in funding commitments in place and have a feature-length motion picture in the pre-production stage. “Support for local feature films is important because it develops long-term production relationships,” notes San Antonio Film Commission director Drew Mayer-Oakes, “relationships that are necessary to maintain and grow the industry locally.” The program is unique in that it promotes investment in film as well as giving filmmakers a leg up when it comes to making commercially viable films.

The San Antonio Local Filmmakers Grant will again be offered in 2013. Want to learn more about filmmaking in San Antonio?  Contact Drew Mayer-Oakes or Janet Vasquez at the San Antonio Film Commission.
